Diapering
A newborn goes through ten to twelve diapers a day. The setup matters: which diaper holds up overnight, which wipe does not redden the skin, which pail actually traps smell. We test through real weeks. The data on pail and bag picks comes from months of use, not a fifteen-minute review.

Diapering: frequently asked questions
- How many diapers will I need in the first month?
- Roughly three hundred. Buy one box of newborn size and one of size 1; many babies grow out of newborn within a few weeks. Top up rather than stockpiling.
- Cloth or disposable?
- Both work. Disposable is faster and cleaner; cloth is cheaper over the long run and less waste. Many families mix: disposable at night and out, cloth at home.
- What about diaper-rash creams?
- Plain zinc oxide is the active ingredient that matters. Twenty dollars buys a tub that lasts months. Apply at the first redness; air out when you can.
