Newborn Sleep

Newborn sleep is unpredictable, but the gear around it does not have to be. We test swaddles and sleep sacks through real nights and translate the TOG and safety jargon into plain language.

Newborn Sleep: frequently asked questions

What is the safest way for a newborn to sleep?
Alone, on their back, in a crib or bassinet with a firm flat mattress, no blankets, pillows, or bumpers. Same room as you for the first six months.
When will my newborn sleep through the night?
Sleeping a long stretch of five or more hours usually starts somewhere between three and six months. Newborns wake every two to four hours to feed; that is normal.
Should I swaddle?
A swaddle helps many newborns sleep longer. Stop swaddling the moment your baby shows any sign of rolling.
